Yep -- why mess with a theme week?

I'm pretty sure this one is the first one I got.

Long Live The King

Matchbox's riff on the Wheel Loader, just to be different. Saw this one at Dollarama and decided it would fit in the theme with the rest of them.

Obviously, I like the Wheel Loader. My first one was the 2001 model shown here which I bought during my inital collecting buying-anything-that-rolled phase. I've always wanted more, so I ordered a couple late last year in my annual winter purchase. These ones are superior to the later versions, of which I only have one -- the new ones have the arm and bucket as a single piece, and a ridiculous engine stuck to the back of it. These ones are more realistic. It'd be nice to find a yellow one, but they are painfully rare these days, and even more painfully expensive on the rare occasion they come up.

Blue Streak

Another recolor of a first editions race car casting. This is a fantastic way to end the week.

I like: the color scheme is mega here. The blue body with the yellow rims, then the colored racing stripes down the side. Win all around.

I don't like: the win doesn't extend to the top of the cab, though, since mine has somehow accumulated red scratch marks. I have no idea where they would have come from, there's very little red on the casting. And yes, it came out of the blister like this.

Soooo.... worthy? Ah -- the first tough decision of the week. While yes, I'd love to have it up on the wall, picking what has to come down to make room for it isn't easy. After a couple days (!) of thinking about it I finally swapped out the Matchbox BMW 5 police car to make room for this one.

Red Recolor

This is the recolor of the Cadillac race car.

I like: The red works much better in real life than is captured here -- and I say that while noting that the red looks really good in the pictures too.. The bright blue and yellows work well in combination too.

I don't like: Hmmm. The thick spoiler? The lack of tampo detail on the back?

So is it worthy? It's pretty close in worthiness to the black one. However I'm looking at the overall color scheme on the wall of worthy and right now it's skewing red pretty heavily so I think I'll keep the black one up.

Volkswagen Kafer Racer

So I passed on this originally but I'm accumulating a bunch of them this year so when this one popped up at Dollarama I grabbed it. The black and yellow works for me better now that I have something of an appreciation for the car's lines.

Another Super Miss

So yes there's another super debut this year. And while it's less of a miss than yesterdays, this Porsche doesn't do it for me. The missed tampo on the front is a disappointment tool

Hyundai 720S

...yeah Lamley got to this first, but the shape and the color really does make it look like a Hyundai Whocares. Very uninspiring. I don't know if this is a function of the actual car being difficult to translate into a good 1/64th model, but whatever the case this casting is a total miss.

Truck Week: Big Finish

So here's the first recolor of last year's Mainline Worthy Of The Year. The red is a wonderful color.

Sorry about the potato quality of the pictures, for whatever reason the camera just wouldn't work with this car.

I think that the nose is underwhelming, the all-black plastic absorbs all the details. The original had a chrome base and front piece which is why it didn't have the same problem that this one does.

We do get details on the back of the truck, though. That's very nice.

So is it worthy? Nose aside, I find this car to be better than last year's. So yes it is going up, and last year's is coming down.
